The Monrovia, CA foothills community deeply mourned the loss of Blondie, a beloved local mama black bear who was watched and cherished by neighbors for years.

Tragically, after a defensive encounter while protecting her very first litter of cubs underneath an Oakglade Drive home, state wildlife officials made the devastating decision to euthanize her. Despite over 3,800 neighbors signing a petition and the Monrovia City Council fighting hard for her safe relocation, state policy labeled her a public safety risk.

While our hearts are heavy, Blondie's legacy lives on:

• Her Cubs are Safe: Her two orphaned cubs are currently being cared for at the San Diego Humane Society and will be released back into the wild once they are old enough.
• Community Unity: Neighbors have been holding vigils and peace walks to honor the sweet mama bear.
• Fighting for Change: The community is now turning their grief into action, petitioning state leaders for non-lethal wildlife policies and better education on peaceful cohabitation.

Care instructions

- Remove the pillow cover. Pre-treat the stains with soft cloth or bristle brush that had been soaked in warm soapy water. Machine wash, max 40°C (104°F), normal cycle. Do not bleach, tumble dry on low, do not dry-clean. Iron, steam, or dry low heat only. Fluff to reshape when assembling it back together.
